The Italian buffet at TNJ was prepared with loving care by NJ Intensity Gold.  SPY gave credit to Inferno.  Spicy meatballs, pasta, salads.  Por favor, grazie mille.

CHINA STARS AT THE BATBUSTER

Mike Bastian, who coaches the Chinese national team, sends this note:  “I am bringing two NCAA eligible Chinese National Team pitchers to participate In the Batbuster Fall Showcase Tournament In Southern California on October 21 and 22 2006. There names are Wang Lan and Zhou Yin. They will be playing for the Chico Starz and Stiggy's respectively In the Gold Division. They will be able to become student athletes In January 2007. The Chinese Government has given there approval. They will have some special needs In the transition to the states and the academic and social systems. They both have won games In the NPF. If you have an Interest. You can contact me at lmbastian@aol.com Thank You!”

TNJ REVISITED

In its recap. SPY mentioned the ACC, SEC, Big East and other conferences being represented.  The MAAC was very well represented: Manhattan, Iona, Saint Peters, Marist and Fairfield.

SHEA STADIUM

I’m agnostic about the NLCS series, and have watched only parts of games.  But, Shea Stadium holds a lot of memories from the 60’s when a group of us bought an open-air box at Shea to watch Joe Namath lead the Jets past people like Lamonica, etc.  Joe was tailor made for the kind of New York that Sinatra sang about – Jillys, Toots, PJ Clarks, the Copa, and more.  Many people leave the “e” off of Hesse, and it worked to my advantage at Shea one Sunday.  Big downpour, so we headed for the lounge.  Maitre said he could not find my reservation.  Lawyer friend said, “Don’t argue, Rayburn.  Just tell Uncle Leon.”  Leon Hess owned the team.  We were given seats by the window, and great steaks.  Thankfully, Leon had a private box and didn’t come to the lounge!
