OCTOBER 25 UPDATE

This report was delayed 48 hours while SPY performed a public service.  Johns Hopkins Hospital discovered it had an over-supply of needles, and asked SPY to serve in an inventory reduction program.  SPY maintains that an EMG violates both the letter and the spirit of the Geneva Convention ban on torture.

Sorcerer comment:

the Explosion reported  the score of our Sunday game incorrectly, they
even added a narrative that was flawed.  They did not shut us out 1-0.  They in fact lost 3-1.  This was not a case of the score reverting to the last inning played, as we were home team.  I don't really care about the outcome, but I do care when you are forced to accept scores in good faith and they are incorrect. Our record in the tournament was 4-0-l, the tie being when an earlier  game with SoCal Pumas was halted in the last of the seventh, I believe, with us having the
bases loaded and no one out.

"Road to the Women's College World Series" radio show announced

10/25/06 - Press Release

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - WVUA-FM 90.7 has announced that on Wednesday, February 14th 2006, the "Road to the Women's College World Series" radio show will return to the airwaves. Last season "The Road" aired its inaugural show during the opening week of the Division I softball Regionals, and aired an additional show to preview the Super Regionals. "The Road" previewed and broke down the preceding and following weeks action, and talked to many coaches from around the country including Connie Clark (Texas), Sue Enquist (UCLA), Carol Hutchins (Michigan), and Patrick Murphy (Alabama). A full slate of coaches will again appear in 2007.

"We had an incredible response to the show last year, and we are very excited to be bringing the show back for its first full season of NCAA softball this season. As far as we know, this is the only weekly radio show in the country focusing solely on collegiate softball, and we know there is an audience for it based on last year's success, " said WVUA-FM Sports Director and show host Nic Hoch. "The Road" will air every Wednesday from 8 ET (5 PT) to 9 ET (6PT). Hoch and co-host Chad Anderson break down the weekly action throughout NCAA softball, complete with interviews with head coaches and athletes from around the country. The show also features call-in segments for listener questions and comments.

In addition to the airing of "The Road" on 90.7 FM in the Tuscaloosa area, the show is also webcast for those outside of the listening area. The webcast feed can be accessed by visiting WVUA-FM's website at www.wvuafm.ua.edu <http://www.wvuafm.ua.edu/>  and can be accessed from anywhere around the world. Each show will also be available after the air date through podcast format. WVUA-FM is the student-radio station on the campus of the University of Alabama, and is also the home and away voice of the Alabama Crimson Tide softball program. Anyone seeking more information about the show may contact Nic Hoch at wvuasports@sa.ua.edu.

THERE IS NO CEILING ON AD SCHEMES

The White Sox, taking a page from the Daniel Snyder how-to-sell-everything book, have sold their start time for home games to the 7-11 chain.  You guessed it: home games will now start at 7:11pm.

BOO TO THE REDSKINS

Lost all respect for Snyder years ago, but now the team drives me away – after the cheap shots various defenders took at Peyton Manning’s knees.  After being thrown down and having his face imprinted on the Indy turf when the Redskins ripped off his helmet, Manning said on the sidelines, while he picked turf from his face, that the Redskin wouldn’t let go of the helmet.  Meanwhile, the Washington Post interviewed a South Asian swami who said the ‘Skins cannot be a winner because Snyder has bad karma – after raising ticket, food and parking prices, and selling seats behind pillars.

SOMEONE IS KIDDING – RIGHT?

Received not one but two invitations to a conference of millionaires.  Actually, the panelists all made their millions selling books to people, advising them on how to become millionaires.  As Barnum said….

SEATTLE IS UNSAFE

Youngest daughter is trying to convince me to move to Seattle where she works incredible hours on the contract her firm has with Microsoft.  Lives in Capitol Hill, supposedly a laid-back, almost middle-class neighborhood.  Last night, thieves broke the window on her car – for the second time.  First time they got her computer.  Finding nothing this time, they trashed her car.  The police response – call your insurance company.  They don’t dust for fingerprints because most of the thieves are juveniles who don’t have records or their records are sealed.  Seattle lets private parking companies control all the lots and prices are exhorbitant -- $14 all day, but at 6pm you have to pay another $5 to park until 7am.  The money is put into slots and the money is removed at regular intervals.  But, no video cameras, no police protection. If I move there, I will file a motion in court challenging the city’s contracts.  Made me think of that guy in Brooklyn who got tired of being robbed and the police doing nothing; he lay in waiting with a shotgun and put two gangbangers on sticks.

Some years ago, a Congressman would make an annual appeal during closed-door markup for a Federal law making rape (his sister was a victim) punishable by castration.  Maybe a few of these hooligans would take notice if some of their ilk were singing soprano in a prison choir.

SIGNORA ROBINSON

The National Italian American Foundation on Saturday presented a posthumous award to the late Anne Bancroft, known to moviegoers as Mrs Robinson.  Real name: Anna Maria Italiano.  The award was presented by another Italian American – Alphonso D’Abruzzo – better known to MASH fans as Hawkeye Pierce (Alan Alda).
