RECRUITING AIDE
We very much liked the baseball-style cards which Dot Richardson had made for
her seniors. On one side, a picture with name and position; on the other,
essential information like positions played, right/left throw and bat; GPA; and
contact information.
HOW TIME FLIES
I am stunned: Charley's Angel Jaclyn Smith is 56 today.
On this day in 1881, Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Virgil and Morgan Earp shot it
out with the Clantons and McLowry's at the OK Corral in Tombstone. Certain
movie versions nothwithstanding, only Billy Clanton and the McLowry's died.
Also on this day in 1949, President Truman raised the minimum wage from 40 cents
to 75 cents. In 1951, Rocky Marciano defeated Joe Louis. Pan Am made
the first non-stop trans-Atlantic flight in 1958 to Paris (when I got on the
foreign scene, some flights still made the stops in Gander and Shannon).
On this day in 1960, a dark day in the nation's capital, the Washington Senators
moved to Minnesota.
In 1981, the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Yankees, four games to two, in the World
Series. Yes, fans, my Yankees lost - they were outplayed. Alas, the
Yankees of my youth are like my youth - gone forever.
