The United States, which will play Netherlands Antilles at 6pm, has won pool play and will be seeded first when the medal round begins on Friday. The USA will play the second-place team at 730pm on Friday. Under the Page system used in ISF competition, the winner advances to the finals at 630pm on Saturday. In a semifinal on Saturday, the loser of the ½ game will play the winner of the third and fourth place teams contest who will also play at 730 pm Friday. That game will determine which team advances to the other final berth. (Netherlands Antilles and Ecuador play a final game on Thursday)
The top five finishers earn berths in the Junior World Championship next June in Kutno, Poland. By virtue of its finish in pool play, from which only four teams advance to the medal round, the USA has qualified for the Junior World Championship.
SPY will publish the results of today’s USA game when the report becomes available.

USA SOFTBALL REPORT
USA enters medal rounds as
No.1 seed.
Caguas, Puerto Rico - The Jr. Women's National team have defeated every team at
the 2006 II Jr. Women's Pan American Championships after defeating Antilles
Holandesas 15-0 (4) in the final game of round robin play. Ashley Brignac (River
Ridge, La.) and Megan Elliott (Prince Frederick, MD) combined for a perfect game
with 10 strikeouts between them and the fifth no-hitter of the tournament.
K'Lee Arredondo (Tempe, Ariz.) led off for the team in the first with a double
to left field. She scored on a shot up the middle by Brittany Lastrapes (Laguna
Niguel, Calif.). A triple off the bat of Maggie Viefhaus (Pacific, Mo.) plated
two runs, scoring Lastrapes and Monica Harrison (Garden Grove, Calif.) who was
hit by a pitch. Viefhaus scored on a groundout by Bianca Mejia (Sylmar, Calif.)
to head into the bottom of the first with a 4-0 advantage.
After scoring a run in the second, the team doubled its run production in the
third inning with seven runs scored. The team had six hits in the third
including three extra base hits by Arredondo, Lastrapes and Mejia. Arredondo hit
a two-RBI triple and was followed by Lastrapes who hit her third triple of the
tournament for an RBI. Lastrapes leads the team with three triples. Mejia, who
leads the team six doubles, hit her fifth to tack on another RBI.
Brignac, in her third start of the tournament, struck out eight of the nine
batters faced before Elliott came in to pitch the final inning, striking out
two.
With a 12-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth, the team needed only three
runs to conclude the game in four innings and that's what they did. A groundout
by Ashley Hansen (Chandler, Ariz.) scored Viefhaus who landed on base with a
walk. A triple by Neena Bryant (Placentia, Calif.) scored Mejia, who hit her
second double of the game to get on base. Bryant scored the final run of the
game on a groundout.
The U.S. enters medal play on Friday as the No. 1 seed. They will face Venezuela
at 5:30 CT on Friday. The winner of that game will play the winner of the No. 3
vs. No.4 seed which is yet to be determined.
