TNJ SUNDAY

Rain cancelled the final four games of this years Team New Jersey tournament – games which offered some of the best matchups of the weekend.  The college coaches who stayed despite the drizzle saw 10 well-played games.

All who participated appreciated the generous hospitality of Jim and Carol Barsalona, the super groundskeeping by Fred Lacik and his crew who were severely challenged by the weather, the better than average umpiring, and the tremendous effort by Nicole Meissner to keep us all supplied with cold water.  There were a number of walking wounded, and an experienced trainer/first aid crew did yeoman service.

Batbusters TD vs Impact.  The game was tied 1-1 when the rains came. Jazmine Jackson gave Impact the lead.  The BBD tied when Julie Pacino drove in Bridgette Pagano, who was pitching for the BBD.  Emily Shadow was on the mound for Impact.  The brief game was highlighted by the play of Brittany Barnhill, a most able pitcher who showed she can play 1st with abandon – diving under one foul  popup, and diving for and snagging a dribbler, the throwing out the runner while lying on her side.

Firecrackers 6, Beach Girls 1.  Wendy Trott belted two homers, one a 2-run shot.  Leading 1-0 after Trott’s solo in the 1st, the Firecrackers scored 3 in the 2nd.  Lauren Schutzler, Michelle Schroeder, and Sara vAcosta hit consecutive singles.  Jessica Marlow drove in one run on a groundout, Ashley Hansen had a 2-run single.  WP Allee Allen.

Georgia Fire 8, WJ Witches 1.  Firecrackers led 6-1 in 4th. Jessica Sinclair homered.  Katy Hackett and Kari Chambers, who impressed all weekend, shared the  GA mound.

Edison Angels 1, WA Ladyhawks 0.  P Caitlin Ryan.

Impact 4, Tremors 0.  Brittany Barnhill and Bree Brown shared Impact’s mound.  Kori Cook, who has committed to the run-starved Longhorns, belted a 2-run homer and also an rbi single.  Brown, an 09 player whom the Impact call their future – she had a HR to her credit – ended this game striking out the side.

Batbusters TD 2, TC Tremors 1.  BBD had the early lead, 1-0, when Julie Pacino scored when Amanda Myers grounder was misplayed at 3rd.  The New Yorkers tied on an rbi by Justina Augustine.   The Batbusters took the lead for good on a solo HR by Brittany Engel.  WP Jordan Taylor.
