Not one of SPY’s best efforts. Some confusion trying to watch four games at once, and not having numbers for all the players, all the while trying to explain what happened at Chula Vista and why I would not speculate on team selection.
In the Smoke-Athletics game, won by the SCA’s 3-2, Caitlin Lowe scored on a balk. Hollee Haines singled to right and scored on Shannon Crisp’s double to account for the Smoke runs. Jodi Legaspi actually struck out. (Hey: Larry and Louisville Slugger: I didn’t have that problem before; I knew all the Gordon Panthers’ numbers.)
Christina Ross of the SCAs did not take the mound against the Fillys until the 3rd, when the Fillys had already scored. Christina pitched the 3rd thru 6th, and did not give up a hit or run.
The Hat
As many readers know, I wear the same cap as former NY Mayor Rudi Guiliani, which has the NY Yankees symbol in between the symbols for the NY Fire and Police. (I have considerably more hair than Hizzoner.) I thought of retiring the cap, especially after so much ribbing down San Diego way, but the Yankees will come back. At least the D-back fans can’t harass me this weekend in Phoenix and Tucson.
If you think Yankee fans forget and move on, think again. NY television stations yesterday honored Don Larsen on the anniversary of his perfect game in the World Series. So did ESPN.
Speaking of anniversaries, on October 10, 1985, the world lost two of its most accomplished actors: Orson Welles (Citizen Kane) and Yul Brynner. (King and I; Ten Commandments; Magnificent Seven.) Can you name the last movie Brynner made when he had hair? Did you know that Welles so prized sandwiches from NY’s famed 21 and other fine eateries that he had boxes of them air-lifted to his movie locations around the world? I still miss Bill Fossatti’s cheeseburgers at Firecracker tournaments.
