Washington On Top For Third Straight Week

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The University of Washington (12-1) remains the No. 1 softball team in the Nation for the third straight week according to the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25 Poll announced today by the Amateur Softball Association (ASA) of America. Washington went undefeated at the Cathedral City Classic in Palm Springs, Calif., with wins over three ranked teams to earn 17 first-place votes.

No. 4 Georgia (8-1) moved two spots into the Top 5 after a 5-0 weekend, hosting the Georgia Softball Classic. No. 7 Michigan (9-4) fell out of the Top 5 after a 2-3 weekend with a loss against Missouri, who they were tied with at 4th last week, and a loss against then-No. 7 Alabama (11-3). No. 3 Missouri  (8-2) went 5-0 on the weekend.

This weekend saw three teams enter the Top 25 with No. 23 Kentucky (11-3) leading the way. No. 24 Oklahoma State (10-5) enters after a 4-1 weekend with the only defeat a 4-9 loss to No. 1 Washington. No. 25 Baylor (8-6) rounds out the newcomers, coming off a 3-2 weekend including a victory over then-No. 3 UCLA.

The Pac-10 Conference and the Big 12 are tied for most teams in the Top 25 with six a piece while the SEC is not far behind with five teams ranked in the Top 25. The SEC and Pac-10 tie for most teams in the Top Ten with three a piece.

Fans in Oklahoma City have the opportunity to watch three of these ranked teams in action this weekend at the Preview at the ASA Hall of Fame Complex in Oklahoma City, Okla.
